Research: Places to See

1. Musee de Picasso - in a 17th century mansion. Artwork and sculptures by Picasso. Cubism is really cool.

2. Jardin de Plantes - used as a royal herb garden for medical and cooking purposes. They have trees the are unique to France. Louis 13th royal family would go on therapeutic walks there.

3. Catacombes - they are at the base of what used to be three mountains. It is a maze of bones. Because the cemeteries in Paris were running out of room in 1786, the Compte de Artois and Charles X ordered the bones moved under the city.

4. Bibliotheque Musee de L'Opera - used to be the emperor's secret passage to the Opera. Now it is a museum of props, music scores, costumes, from famous shows. There is a famous ballet dancer's slippers on display.

5. Le Moulin Rouge - it was built in 1885 a laundry boat that used to travel on he Seine river. It is a dance hall. The can was made popular by the shows there. It was home to some of the most talents artists, poets, and writers. The original building burnt down in 1970.

6. The Palace and Gardens of Versailles. Louis XIV build Versailles as the biggest castle in Europe, starting with the hunting lodge. Over 20,000 lived there at a time - servants, dukes, knights, ladies, cooks, squires, duchesses, kings, and queens. Le petit Trianon was built in 1762 and was given to Marie Antoinette as her own hideaway from court.
