Stories inside the Paintings

Today we went to a museum named Orsay. In the museum there were lots of paintings. I had to try to tell their stories.

My favourite painting was Two Sisters at the Piano (Filles a Piano) by Renoir. There is one blond girl sitting at the piano in her home - which you can tell by the furniture in the background. Her older dark-haired sister is standing next to her. The blond sister is struggling with the song she is playing. Her face looks lost and frustrated. The older sister listens to her play the song and together they read the music. The older sister will try to explain the difficult part. Most likely, the younger sister will get it. They probably are close and loving because the older sister wouldn't be helping the younger one if they were not close.

Other pictures told different stories. There was one that showed a boat crashed on shore and the other fishermen had to go back out to sea to work after they saw the disaster. The faces and body language showed that they felt sad and a bit scared. The colours showed their sadness because they were dark and scared. Maybe there had been a storm

Another painting showed a funeral. There was a little boy and his mother sitting sort of away from the rest of the village. In the background you notice the boats and the sea so probably her husband died in a boating accident. Maybe the same one from the other painting. The colours in this picture were bright not dark and gloomy like you would expect. It showed normal nature colours to say that life goes on. The boy is little so he doesn't understand what is happening and was fooling around. The mother was crying and a little girl diagonal from the mother was watching her. I could tell by her expression that she was feeling empathy for the mother.

There were lots more stories in the museum to see in the art. It would take days to see them all so I had to chose a few to really look at closely.
